Playing outside

Mowing the lawn with his sunglasses ready… Lukas is waiting for the summer.

After one test ride in July when the bike was brand new Lukas has not once touched his bike, but yesterday this all changed. After trying it out he didn’t want to let it go again. We even had to bring to his grandparents place.

Quanda isn’t glad about staying behind the fence…

Rally-O competition Hörby

Today we attended our first official Rally-O competition. Quanda did a great job and we got a score of 87 points. This means the first step to the next level! When we started training Rally-O not even a year ago I needed to lure Quanda around the course with a high quality treat in my hand… She’s come such a long way and I’m so proud :-D

I got lots of pictures of our achievements today, but unfortunately the flash was disturbing Quanda’s concentration and without the flash most pictures turned out blurry…

Picture time

Quanda during her shower treatment.

Quanda has been itching all over and biting and scratching herself. Besides giving her kortison tablets we also been showering her twice a week with a special shampoo.

Lukas had a great time playing in his room today, but I guess he still needs his afternoon nap…

Picture time

Our vacation is going way to fast… It’s great to have time to relax and have fun! We finally put the boat into the sea, but Lukas didn’t want to take a boat trip. Maybe he was just to tired yesterday. Let’s hope so…

Here are some of the pictures taken during the last two weeks.

Great picture of a great dog :)

Lukas does not enjoy his new swimming pool… He couldn’t wait to hop in, but he changed rapidly into a badkruka.

But he’s not afraid to get wet and helping dad was of the new pavilion is fun!

Homemade muffins.

Lukas got stuck on his slide.

IPO-R Weekend

I’ve had a perfect weekend with two days of IPO-R training!

Bosse Gustafsson has been successfully training and competing in IPO-R for several years and this weekend he came to Blekinge to give us an introduction. He gave us lots of inspiration and was very positive to all individuals in our training group even the ones that are mainly interested in having fun with the family dog!

IPO-R stands for Internationale Prüfungsordnung – Rettung and is an international dog competition for search and rescue dogs. Saturday we trained the obedience part and on Sunday it was time for disaster rescue training.

I don’t plan to actually start competing, but who cares? Just the training is not only great fun, it’s also a prefect way to train Quanda’s social skills and her self-esteem!

IPO-R obedience: you have to be able to carry your dog!

Quanda working on the disaster location. She really had fun yesterday!

That’s how it should look like: 100% focus on the fig.

Search and rescue dog

Yesterday we’ve tried search and rescue training and we had a great time!!

It was actually disaster rescue (ruinsök) so we went to a special training field which is supposed to mimic a disaster area. We’ve never tried search before, so we started out easy. The first time Quanda got to watch the figurant hide herself. The second and third she only got to see the direction in which figurant left. Here is a photo sequence of Quanda’s first try.

Look at that… she’s got sausage…

She went that way… maybe she’s got more sausage…

She’s over there… what do I do now??

Maybe I can walk over this stuff…

There she is… and there is the sausage!!

I like you… and I like your sausage :)

Rally-O training competition

Yesterday we got 77 points in a Rally-O training competition in Karlshamn!

For those of you that don’t know: you need at least 70 out of 100 points for an approved score. So this means we are ready to enter competitions after the first of July when Rally-O becomes an official dog sport in Sweden :)

Tracking course

Lukas and Jesper sitting by the campfire.

This picture was taken during the last part of the tracking course for this spring. We didn’t follow our normal routine which throw of Quanda completely. For the first time during all three years at this tracking course Quanda didn’t find the deer hoof in the end. She hardly worked the track and half way through I decided to break. If she doesn’t do the work, she shouldn’t get the reward…

The problems Quanda was having actually reminded me on what usually happens when we are out tracking by ourselves. She just isn’t really motivated… I know Quanda loves tracking, I just don’t know how to put her in the right mood. I got some ideas from the others, so we really have to try to change this.

A perfect weekend

Finally I’ve got some time to write about last weekend!

Saturday it was time for the second part of Quanda’s tracking course. This time Lukas got to come along and the three of us spend a perfect morning in the woods. Lukas seemed to have lots of fun while playing with some older kids and he ate like a horse. After quickly eating almost all the food I brought, he continued with grilled sausage while Quanda was working the track.

Quanda had a hard time while working the track, but she kept on going until she found the deer hoof in the end. Great work once again!

On Sunday we went on the first family boat trip for this year and for the first time Lukas actually enjoyed being on the see. He was sitting in dad’s knee driving the boat and looking and pointing to lots of things we drove by. Now we looking forward to a great boat season!

The Rally-O training on Sunday evening went perfect! This time Quanda really seemed to want to work together with me and we had a really good time together! Good girl :)
